"Promoting Social Inclusion..."

In several parts of Europe like Eastern-Europe, Southern-Europe, but also regarding immigrants in the North of Europe marginalization of minority-groups is one of the biggest threats of European society. One of the most difficult challenges in Europe is social inclusion of these minority-groups in nowadays society. These European inhabitants (incl. unemployed, elderly and low-educated) experience (intercultural) problems to participate and being active in society. For these people there should be European possibilities to learn in later life, because education can provide active involvement in society to overcome barriers to social inclusion.

Light of Learning

The European research-project EDAM (EDucation Against Marginalisation) give insights into the outcome of adult education in 8 countries in Europe. Marginalised people still get the opportunity for a better life in nowadays society after joining education. This song tells the story of “Light of Learning” of Gita. She got her chance to learn in order to cope with daily problems and increase her social inclusion. For more information see this website.

Opinions of other participants of EDAM program:

·         ‘I feel better now, I have more self-confidence’

·         ‘Before I came here, I felt uncertain about myself. I didn’t dare to talk and therefore I felt uncertain. (...) Now I’m going to school and I learn with other people, as I don’t want to be the same pathetic person. But it helped very well, very well’

·         ‘Now it’s really different. Now I’m in contact with people in the town hall, the post-office, and the bank. I can do everything by myself’

·         ‘My parents and girlfriend notice a lot of progression. (...) They told me that they used to help me, but that it is not necessary anymore nowadays’
